HYDROFACIAL FAQ
WHAT IS A HYDROFACIAL? A Hydrofacial is a deep-cleansing exfoliation treatment that gives your skin a quick acid peel and plumps it with hydrating serums, all in the space of 45 minutes. It uses an aqua peeling hydrodermabrasion machine to get deeper and do more than a normal facial ever could. Made up of six stages, it works to detoxify the skin, cleanse and exfoliate, remove dead skin cells, extract any debris and provide long lasting hydration and essential nutrient support to protect and rebuild collagen levels. The treatment does this by combining the benefits of next-level hydradermabrasion, a light chemical peel, automated painless extractions and a special delivery of antioxidants, hyaluronic acid and peptides – all in one quick treatment! Thanks to this, it can also help to manage conditions such as acne by using specific ingredients to help reduce redness and inflammation caused by the breakout of spots without drying out the skin.
HOW DO HYDROFACIALS WORK? The Hydrofacial uses a vortex of water that whirls in and out of the device to cleanse the skin, provide lymph-draining massage, exfoliate the skin to remove old dead skin cells and apply acids to soften blockages in the pores. The softened gunk is then vacuumed out, leaving the skin much smoother and more receptive to the dose of complexion-boosting vitamins, peptides, and moisturising hyaluronic acid serums that follows to plump up wrinkles. A few minutes of soothing LED light calms the skin and stimulates collagen formation. Hydrofacial is sometimes referred to as “hydradermabrasion” as it is an updated gentler version of the old microdermabrasion treatments. Unlike microdermabrasion, which blasts the skin’s surface with aluminum oxide crystals, the Hydrofacial wand creates a vacuum on your pores and infuses the skin with moisturising serums. This gentle approach is what makes Hydrofacials so soothing and refreshing, leaving behind smooth, even skin immediately after treatment! Superficial Cleanse The Hydrofacial treatment starts with manual cleansing to remove visible dirt, debris and makeup from the skins surface. Hydrocleansing A deeper cleanse using the hydrodermabrasion tip removes dead skin cells and excess sebum from the skin. A mix of acids are applied to the skin to break up any dirt and oil that's clogging pores. Hydrodermabrasion Exfoliation The Hydrodermabrasion tip is used to vacuum out blackheads, dirt, oil, and impurities. Massage Improves circulation, stimulates lymphatic drainage to remove toxins all while reducing stress and adding immediate vitality to dull complexions. LED Mask Uses a range of wavelengths and colour spectrum cycling to improve the appearance of your skin. Red (640nm) - Deep repair, increases skin elasticity, reduces pigmentation, Brightening. Blue (415nm) - Remove acne, inhibit bacteria, anti-acne, anti-inflammatory. HydroReplenish Hydrating, plumping, and nourishing active serums are simultaneously applied to rejuvenate dull skin. Moisture Lock The final stage hydrates by locking in moisture and prevents the water from evaporating from your skin. This leaves skin supple, soft and healthy. This will slow down the signs of ageing and contribute to a more youthful and glowing complexion.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HYDROFACIAL? It’s quick and easy and gives great results! It’s like a deep-cleansing ‘reset’ for the face. Your skin may be a little red and flushed by the end but it gives an amazing fresh and glowing appearance that is very clean and plumped up from the hyaluronic acid and peptide solution. The results make it a really worthwhile treatment, and is even great after a holiday (where sunscreen has been piled on and the skin has been neglected!) to really clean out the pores and make it more receptive to the active skincare products you like to use at home. One of the best things about Hydrofacials is how consistent the results are. This is helped massively by the machine itself, which is a high-tech feat of engineering. A Hydrofacial improves the appearance of: Oily, acne-prone skin Dry skin Uneven skin tone Fine lines and wrinkles Hyperpigmentation Sun damage Age spots Blackheads Enlarged and clogged pores Suitable For All Skin Types Whether your skin is oily and acne-prone, dry and flaky, or you have combination skin, you will benefit from a Hydrofacial treatment. Even those with sensitive skin can safely enjoy multiple sessions. Gentle On The Skin Despite the fact that a hydrofacial involves both exfoliation and extraction, it is painless and non-irritating to the skin. Since it delivers hydrating serums, clients are left with a smooth, radiant, healthy glow. Zero Downtime A Hydrofacial only takes 45 minutes from start to finish, and there is no downtime required after the treatment. The improvement in skin texture and tone can be noticed immediately, so patients do not need to recover or wait for redness to dissapear. In fact, you can put makeup on and resume your normal activities immediately after treatment. Can Be Paired With Other Treatments Hydrofacials are non-invasive, meaning that patients can receive certain other skincare treatments in conjunction with a Hydrofacial. Whether you want injectables or to pair with another of our fantastic skin treatments, ask your practitioner about pairing a hydrofacial with another beautifying procedure to achieve your ideal aesthetic goals.
HYDROFACIAL VS MICRODERMABRASION - WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE? The Hydrofacial provides a much gentler exfoliation compared to microdermabrasion which is much better for your skin barrier. Both procedures will exfoliate the skin, but microdermabrasion does this by scouring off the top (dead) layer of skin, usually with a fine powder of crystals. The water vortex used in our hydrofacial performs a more gentle exfoliation goes further by also adding a gentle acid peel, extraction of blocked pores and the infusion of serums into the treatment. There’s also a great deal more scope for customisation with hydrofacial, which allows your practitioner to finely tune the procedure to cater to your precise needs and skin type.
DO HYDROFACIALS REMOVE BLACKHEADS? Hydrofacials are great for removing blackheads because of the thorough cleansing, exfoliation, and acid application that precedes the extraction process. This multi-step process enables the tool to remove blackheads efficiently and effectively with minimal discomfort.
DO HYDROFACIALS HELP WITH ACNE? The Hydrofacial is a great addition to your acne-fighting regimen. While the treatment of acne is usually a long-term process that often requires a combination of approaches, you can be sure that a Hydrofacial – which boils down to cleansing, exfoliation, extraction and application of specialised treatment serums – will always be a good move. The only thing I’d say is to avoid going for a Hydrofacial in the middle of a severe breakout. The abrasive techniques are mildly irritating, so wait for your skin to calm down before going through that.
HOW LONG DO THE HYDROFACIAL RESULTS LAST? The glow lasts for several days and the super-clean, super-fresh feeling lasts for around a week. It does leave you a little pink afterwards, so I’d do this a couple of days before a big event to give your skin time to calm down if you are sensitive. You will find your skin is still feeling nice and soft for 10-14 days.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE A HYDROFACIAL? Your skin will thank you for regular hydrofacials! For the best ongoing and long-term results, we recommend one every 4-6 weeks although they are safe to be repeated more frequently if you have a holiday or event coming up! You can also time your hydrofacial treatments with the changes in the seasons as part of your skincare plan so your skin can enjoy a reset before being exposed to different environmental elements.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS TO HYDROFACIALS? This is a minimally invasive treatment, but unless you have particularly hardy skin you should expect some pinkness straight afterwards. This is normal and nothing to worry about. Give it a day and you’ll be back to normal, just with much cleaner and healthier skin. Hydrofacials should not result in any adverse effects. However, there are some side effects that are uncommon but may be experienced. Before doing any procedure, we do our best to ensure it is suited for your skin type. The vast majority of adverse effects are self-limiting, but more severe reactions may demand medical attention. Here are a few typical adverse effects that some individuals may suffer after a facial: Irritation and Redness The most typical side effects of a facial are having some redness and blotchy skin. This is typically related to the exfoliation pressure and any extractions or substances used during the treatment. Your skin should be allowed to recuperate after your treatment so we advise you not to wear makeup or use any other products on your skin for the first day or two following your facial. We advise you to schedule your treatment three days before any major events so your face can have time to dissipate any redness. Breakouts The combination of ingredients used can act like a decongestant, encouraging sebum and oil up and out of your skin, which can manifest as a small breakout if you’re unlucky. As your skin goes through its renewal process, it can bring more congestion to the surface. But don’t despair. This is a good thing and it means clearer skin is on the way. Essentially, it might not be that your facial is causing a breakout. It’s more that it’s bringing to the surface what is trapped beneath your skin. Avoid Complications With a Proper Facial Consultation A facial consultation is a process of determining skin type, benefits, and potential contraindications to offer the appropriate treatments. We will collect a medical history, learn about your existing skin regimen, and establish objectives for improving your skin. During this time, please disclose any medical history regarding skin health, any diagnosed skin diseases and any allergies that may produce anaphylaxis, rashes, itching, or redness. Tell us any information about your skin type, such as whether it's normal, dry, oily, or combination. Also if you have had any skin treatments in the past and any problems encountered with previous facials.
